Some Books that I read whilst writing Gorden:

Fiction

<too large a list to show>

Where's My Teddy ISBN: 0744554357

One of the best children's books I've ever read. The most-requested childrens book on every boat I know.

Non-Fiction

Oracle Pl/SQL Programming ISBN: 1565923359

O'Reilly. Good "Dipper"

Oracle 8 The Complete Reference ISBN: 007882396

Malcolm's book, but I think the whole office has borrowed it at some stage. Decent hardback.

Oracle Performance Tuning ISBN 1565922379

Absolutely a godsend. I bought this and Lisa borrowed it about a year ago. I'm still waiting for her to let me have it back.

Special Edition Using HTML 4, Sixth Edition ISBN: 0789722674

The author has a good sense of humour for a change. I learnt everything I know from the second edition of this book. But I must admit this update is well worth the money. Funny, I lent this to Lisa (again) and she's not let me have it back yet. I can see a pattern developing here..

Applying Use Cases (A Practical Guide) ISBN: 0201309815

I like the factual part of the book, but the examples make me grate my teeth. If I want fiction I'll read fiction. If I want to know how well three people enjoyed dinner then I'd like to have had the option of attending. A good summary, provided you can cope with the childish examples.

Web Development with Java Server Pages ISBN: 1884777996

Much better. Good examples. Useful examples. Covers pretty much all you need to know. It's not a Java tutorial. You can get loads of those, but I found it helped the project we were doing and gave some good ideas on how to make it sexier than we thought we could. If that makes sense to you.

Java in a Nutshell ISBN: 1565924878 and Java Enterprise in a Nutshell ISBN: 1565924835

The usual O'Reilly summary-of-everything-you-need-to-know. Pretty much invaluable no matter how good your IDE is.

The Java Tutorial, Second Edition ISBN: 0201310074

There's about six copies of this spread among about ten contractors at our office. Should say enough.

(SAMS) Teach Yourself Java 2 Platform in 21 Days ISBN: 0672316382

Um. Greg's up to Day 14 and he's had the book a month now. Anyone know of ANYONE who actually did one of these books in 21 days? The hardback has a bonus week in JDBC. Woopie.

Instant JavaScript ISBN: 1861001274

(I think) the most useful of the Javascript guides I've borrowed recently

Javascript: The Definitive Guide ISBN: 1565923928

More O'Reilly brilliance.

John said his favourite book at the moment is the AA Guide To Golf Courses ISBN: 0749525266

Not much I can say about that.
